Place cats to light up every corner. A cozy Akari puzzle for cat lovers.
What is MeowTrail?
MeowTrail is a cat-themed logic puzzle game based on the classic Akari (Light Up) puzzle by Nikoli. Place glowing cats on a grid to illuminate every white cell, following numbered clues on black walls. No two cats can see each other in the same row or column.
How to Play
- Click a white cell to place or remove a glowing cat.
- Each cat illuminates its entire row and column until blocked by a black wall.
- Numbered black cells show how many adjacent (up/down/left/right) cells must contain cats.
- No two cats can see each other — if two are in the same row or column with no wall between, that's illegal.
- All white cells must be illuminated to win.
Double-click (or right-click / long-press on mobile) to mark a cell with a paw print — useful for noting cells you know can't have cats.
Difficulty Levels
- Easy (7×7) — Perfect for beginners. More numbered clues, simpler deduction chains.
- Medium (10×10) — The standard challenge. Requires intermediate techniques like cross-hatching.
- Hard (12×12) — For experienced puzzlers. Fewer clues, deeper reasoning required.
Tips & Strategy
Start with extremes
- "4" cells — all four neighbors must be cats. Place them immediately.
- "0" cells — none of its neighbors can have cats. Mark them with paw prints.
Use line-of-sight
- Once you place a cat, every cell in its row and column (until a wall) is automatically lit and cannot hold another cat.
- Look for cells that can only be lit from one direction — those are forced placements.
