What Is Akari?
Akari (ใใใ, "light" in Japanese) is a logic puzzle created by Nikoli โ the same Japanese publisher behind Sudoku. Also known as Light Up, Akari challenges you to place light bulbs on a grid so that every white cell is illuminated. The catch: numbered black cells tell you exactly how many bulbs must surround them, and no two bulbs can see each other in the same row or column.
MeowTrail lets you play Akari online for free โ with glowing cats instead of light bulbs. No download, no signup, no ads.
How to Play Akari Online
Click a white cell to place a glowing cat (your light source). Click again to remove it.
Each cat illuminates its entire row and column until blocked by a black wall.
Numbered black cells are your clues. A "3" means exactly 3 of its 4 adjacent cells must contain cats.
No two cats can see each other โ if two cats share a row or column with no wall between them, that's a violation.
Light up every white cell to solve the puzzle.
Akari Solving Tips
Start with "4" cells โ all four neighbors must be cats. Place them immediately.
Start with "0" cells โ none of its neighbors can have cats. Mark them all.
Use line-of-sight โ once you place a cat, mark every cell in its row and column as "no cat allowed."
Work from corners โ corner cells can only be lit from two directions, making them easier to solve.
Never guess โ if you're stuck, there's a deduction you haven't spotted. Use the Hint button.
