A logic puzzle is any puzzle that can be solved through pure deduction — no guessing, no math, no trivia. You're given a set of constraints (clues), and you use reasoning to figure out the one valid arrangement that satisfies all of them.
Logic puzzles come in many forms: grid-based deduction, number placement, spatial reasoning, and pattern matching. The common thread is that every step can be justified by logic alone. If you're stuck, it means there's a deduction you haven't spotted yet — not that you need to guess.
MeowTrail is a free online logic puzzle based on Nikoli's classic Akari (Light Up). The rules are simple:
No arithmetic. No vocabulary. Just spatial reasoning and constraint satisfaction — the purest form of logic puzzle.
Puzzles where you fill a grid according to rules. Akari/Light Up (MeowTrail's game), Sudoku, and Nonograms all fall into this category. The grid gives you a visual framework for tracking constraints.
Puzzles that require thinking about position, direction, and line of sight. Akari is a spatial puzzle — you need to visualize how light propagates across rows and columns. This makes it fundamentally different from number-based puzzles like Sudoku.
The broadest category. Any puzzle where you have a set of constraints and must find the arrangement that satisfies all of them. Logic grid puzzles, KenKen, and Kakuro are all constraint satisfaction problems.

Research shows that regular logic puzzle practice improves working memory, processing speed, and executive function. Unlike timed action games, logic puzzles reward patience and careful thinking — making them an ideal mindfulness exercise.
MeowTrail adds a cozy twist: the warm cat visuals and gentle color palette make the puzzle feel relaxing rather than stressful. You're not racing a clock — you're enjoying the process of deduction.
Look for "4" cells (all neighbors must be cats) and "0" cells (no neighbors can be cats). These give you the most information immediately.
Once you place a cat, mark every cell in its row and column as "cannot have another cat." This eliminates possibilities and reveals forced placements.
Corner cells can only be lit from two directions. Edge cells from three. These constraints make corners and edges easier to solve than the center.
If you're stuck, you've missed a deduction. Go back and check every numbered cell — there's always a logical next step.

Absolutely. The grid is fully responsive. Long-press to mark cells with paw prints on mobile.
Sudoku uses number placement. MeowTrail uses spatial reasoning — you place cats that illuminate rows and columns. No math required.

Yes. Easy (7×7), Medium (10×10), and Hard (12×12). Each difficulty uses the same rules but with fewer clues and larger grids.
